Wildwood Boys Camp

There was a boys summer camp located in Juddville durng the early 1900s, where Peninusla Players Rd. ends at the shores of Juddville Bay. The camp was active from the summer of 1920 through 1937, when it was purchased to be the home of the Peninsula Players theater.

The camp resided on over 20 acres of property with 1,150 feet of shore front. The boys who attended the camp came mainly from Chicago and were ages 16 to 20.

When it opened in 1920, the camp was targeting 60 boys to attend the camp and was to run from July 1st to September 15th. This new boys camp was partly established to emulate the successful Meenaga girls camp that was located nearby on the west side of Peninsula State Park. Meenaga had brought not only campers to Door County, but also the campers’ family members and friends. So it was deemed to be a success as both a summer camp and as a way to attract additional tourists to the area.

Wildwood campers would compete in local competitions in swimming, underwater swimming, diving, canoeing, canoe tilting, and rowing.
